A graduate of Indiana University, the Seattle Culinary Academy, and a proud attendee of the Quillisascut Farm School of the Domestic Arts, Chef Kristen Schumacher (Chef Schu) feels fortunate to live and work in the Pacific Northwest, where she is surrounded by such abundance and inspiration for the food she cooks.

 

As a restaurateur, farmers market coordinator, cookbook contributor, caterer, cooking instructor, and food product manufacturer,  she has been active in many facets of cooking through the years. One of Chef Schu’s passions is being a sustainable food advocate and volunteer. She has offered her time and expertise to various Seattle & Snoqualmie Valley organizations to help promote and educate people about the local food economy and sustainable kitchen practices. She also launched the first Fall City Friday Market at Aroma Coffee Company and plans to continue to expand it. She has also taken up farming in her own backyard. Growing food that she can cook with completes the circle of farm to table cuisine.

 

She has served as a personal chef for the Snoqualmie Valley community, local celebrities, a cooking instructor and in-house chef as well as a guest instructor at a number of different cooking schools in the area. 

Her last adventure was owner and head chef at the farm-to-table Heirloom Cookshop in downtown Snoqualmie. Anyone who went remembers it as a place to eat delicious food from the ever-changing menu, support the local producers and community, and make wonderful memories. Chef Schu plans to carry on that tradition at Heirloom Cookshop Collective Farm for events and dinners under the stars when possible. 

Currently she has opened a second location, in collaboration with two other women owned businesses in the old Snoqualmie Candy Shop. The space now hosts Snoqualmie Ice Cream, Chickadee Bakeshop and Heirloom Cookshop (2.0)! She continues to wholesale to other valley businesses, offer private catering services and now offering a weekly dinner delivery service to the Snoqualmie Valley.

 

When she's not in the kitchen, you will find Kristen spending time with her two adorable girls, Ryanne and Finley, doing farm chores for all of her chickens, goats and cat. She loves exploring the outdoors in any season...skiing, hiking, mountaineering creating art, pouring over creative food blogs and cookbooks, tinkering in the kitchen, preserving the harvest, and drinking very good mezcal.
